How to Play Micro Midgard

This article will give you a brief overview of how to play Micro Midgard.

In Micro Midgard, you are aiming to be the first player to reach 9 points, or have the highest score when the final Prophecy is scored (triggering the end of the game).

Setup

The most important part of the game, of course, is taking it out of the box. Micro Midgard makes use of nearly every single component, with variability coming from the fact that nearly everything is double-sided!

The 4 Ragnarok tokens determine which realms will be destroyed this game (and in what order). They also determine the 4 starting realms for the 4 corresponding meeples, and hence the 4 corresponding Blessings to be used for the game. With these setup, relics are placed on the two Craft related Blessing tracks, on levels 1 through 4. Next, the Prophecy tokens are placed in order along the Sun and Moon tracks, indicating the scoring conditions during each Ragnarok event.

Finally, the second player takes a resource of their choice (Gold or Mead), and play can begin.

Taking a Turn

Move a Meeple

On your turn, you can move one of the available meeples, that is one that doesn’t have a player marker on it, to an adjacent space. Then, you place your player marker on it, blocking that meeple from being used until after your next turn.

In this way there will normally always be two meeples covered and two meeples available to move.

Activate the Space

After moving to a space, you can activate the abilities in any order, claiming any resources and taking the indicated Sun, Moon or Craft action.

The Sun, Moon and Craft actions are typically used for activating their corresponding Blessing tracks – either moving up one level, or taking a bonus at your level or below and moving to the bottom of the track.

The two Blessings related to the Craft action work a little differently. When activate the Blessing, if there is an available Relic you can claim it and place it in front of you, granting you access to its powers.

As you acquire relics you will unlock new ways to use your abilities and spend resources for points and powers.

Check for Ragnarok

At the end of a turn, if one of the wolf tokens have passed the end of their track, Ragnarok will trigger. Only one of the two Prophecies will be scored, depending on which wolf (Sun or Moon) triggered Ragnarok, with the remaining Prophecy being discarded.

The Ragnarok token indicates which realm will be destroyed, flipping it to the other side. This weakens the realms abilities, as well as disconnecting it from Midgard. Finally, the Ragnarok token is placed above the destroyed realm, blocking the space and making the corresponding wolf track one step shorter.
